Chief’s Message

“Kitatamiskâtinâwâw kahkiyaw, ati-nîpin êkwa kipakosêyihtamâtinâwâw kwayask ta-ispayik ôma nîpin”, I am excited as summer is here. With the coming of summer, we begin our travels to meet with all of you as part of the Kahkewistahaw Legacy Trust per capita payouts. Our ancestors preserved through the struggles so that we could reap the benefits today, and we are forever grateful for their resilience.

We are also looking forward to this year’s Kahkewistahaw Treaty Days, which will run from July 8th-12th, right on our homelands. Treaty Day is July 8th, games and activities are planned to bring laughter and joy to our people. The day will culminate with world renowned country music artist Charlie Major playing to our people, on our pow-wow grounds. On July 9th, we will celebrate our culture and practice our traditional ways by hosting a 3-day pow-wow with many world class dancers and singers coming to our homelands.

A very exciting summer ahead of us and I look forward to meeting you all as we spread that good Kahkewistahaw spirit, ekosi.
