pêyakôskan mîywâyâwin (Family Wellness)

The KFN pêyakôskan mîywâyâwin department offers four supportive programs:

  • Jordan’s Principle
  • Prevention
  • Post Majority
  • First Nations Representative

Family Wellness staff evaluates all potential participants to determine their eligibility and to ensure a good fit. Each individual and family that receives ongoing support in one of these programs creates healing plans with our staff that must be followed to continue to participate.

We work hard to maintain confidentiality and to treat everyone with respect and compassion.

Please follow our Kahkewistahaw First Nation pêyakôskan mîywâyâwin Facebook page for social and healing programs & services updates.

If you have any questions, concerns and/or suggestions, please email familywellness@kahkewistahaw.com

Post Majority

This program is available for youth across Canada ages 18-25 who were in care when they turned 18 and have “aged out”. With support into their adult years, these young people can make their way in the world with confidence.

The Post Majority program provides holistic support, from practical to spiritual. It can assist with:

  • rent
  • clothing & personal hygiene
  • tuition & professional development
  • access to Knowledge Keepers & ceremony
  • psychologist (at the Governance Centre) & referrals to other specialists

A healing plan will be completed with Family Wellness staff to determine what support is needed. Among other help, every participant completes a financial literacy class to ensure they can be responsible and successful with money.

Prevention

This program is available to all members currently living on Kahkewistahaw First Nation.

Prevention services helps with the following healing services:

  • mental health,
  • spiritual health,
  • emotional health,
  • and physical health,
  • referrals to other KFN programs & services,
  • identifying problems that are negatively affecting families.

A Healing Plan will need to be completed by each family and/or individual prior to receiving assistance. Our Family Wellness Support Workers will ensure that you are meeting your goals and time frames set.

First Nations Representative

This program is available to all members of Kahkewistahaw First Nation who live in Canada. We provide help and advocacy to families involved in protection matters with Yellow Thunderbird Lodge (YTL) or the Ministry of Social Services.

Support can include:

  • assistance with paperwork
  • advocacy in meetings

This can be a stressful, confusing time for all members of your family. We can help you understand how the system works and help you deal with it.
