POSITION: ADDICTIONS SUPPORT WORKER
DEPARTMENT: HEALTH
WAGE RANGE: BASED ON QUALIFICATIONS
CLASSIFICATION: PERMANENT FULL-TIME
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Addictions Support Worker provides culturally sensitive support to individuals and families impacted by addiction. This role focuses on community-based support within Kahkewistahaw First Nation, integrating Indigenous knowledge and traditional healing practices. The Addictions Support Worker collaborates with other health team members and local agencies to create a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes healing and recovery. The Addictions Support Worker will be under direct supervision of the Health Director.
DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES:
- Client Information and Case Management
Provide one-on-one and group support to clients affected by addictions. Facilitate access to treatment programs, counselling, and community resources.
- Prevention and Education
Develop and deliver culturally appropriate addiction prevention workshops and educational sessions.
- Community Outreach Advocacy
Build and maintain positive relationships with clients, families and community members. Work closely with local agencies, treatment centers, and other support services to coordinate care.
- Administrative Duties
Document client information, progress, and outcomes in accordance with privacy and confidential guidelines.
REQUIRED SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Diploma or Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Addictions Studies, or related field.
- Experience working in addictions, mental health, or social services, preferably in a First Nation community.
- Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, traditional healing practices, and a commitment to cultural sensitivity.
- Must maintain a positive attitude and demonstrate a pleasant, courteous, and professional demeanor, while also being punctual, reliable, and committed to upholding confidentiality in all matters.
- Must be able to work under pressure to meet deadlines, possess excellent time management skills, take direction, and work with minimal supervision.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and own a reliable vehicle.
- Must provide three (3) current written references with an updated resume and cover letter.
- Submit a current updated criminal record check (CPIC).
- Must provide a drug screening test if selected for the position.
